His dad's relationship with a group of orphaned kids he falls in with is also played just right, never sentimental or humorous. Once again doing the old Jewish dad routine talking about his ungrateful son and how anyone who disagrees is a putz! Both are superb light comedic actors and get great moments, especially when in scenes together where they have a great chemisty. Particularly Jeff Goldbum, David Levinson now in a position of authority. It has to be said the latter do make more of an impression than the former by and large. Hollywood doesn't give the rest of the world cause to complain! Disgraceful I say! It also, by virtue of it's international defence force, makes it a totally international and not just American effort. To it's credit it is a proper sequel, as it does try to develop things from the first thing and show how the world has developed as a result. This tries to do what the first film did. ![]() What nobody quite expects is the scale of the return when it happens. To defend against the aliens should they come back. Now we have have a space defence force and bases out in the solar system. Studying the alien technology has advanced human technology. But Stephen Hiller has died in the meantime. Humanity and Those involved have moved on. It's twenty years after the human race beat the aliens and saved the Earth. But you will doubtless have seen it if you do. A sequel finally arrives to 1996's 'Independence Day.' Familiarity with that film will help with seeing this. ![]()
